Lowery had been fighting a lengthy battle against neuroblastoma, but the news of his passing felt both sudden and shocking.
The six-year-old touched fans across the world after repeatedly appearing as a mascot for Sunderland during the 2016-17 seasons.
And Fifa, clubs and players joined to pay their respect to the ‘inspirational boy’.
