MELBOURNE Storm superstar Cooper Cronk has rubbished speculation about his future, adamant he must still decide whether he actually wants to “lace the boots on “ next year.
The blockbuster possible free agent has been linked to several Sydney-based NRL clubs, most notably Storm rivals Cronulla.
But Cronk, 33, said he must first decide whether he wants to play on.
“I haven’t entertained any option for next year or beyond,” Cronk said.
“The decision I have to make is whether I want to play on, now I’m not going to lead anyone down a garden path and say ‘Oh yeah, I could consider coming to a club’ when I don’t even know if I’m going to lace the boots on next year.
“Everyone is entitled to their speculation and opinion, but from my point of view I haven’t entertained anything.”
KENT: Clueless NRL has to decide what it wants to be
Cooper Cronk is yet to decide on his future.
Cronk said he will not be rushed into making the decision, which might ultimately come at the end of the season.
A farewell Storm premiership and successful Rugby League World Cup campaign for the Kangaroos could sway the decision.
“I haven’t swapped or gone down, up and down like a yo-yo,” Cronk said.
“I’ve been pretty solid with it, the simple question is do I want to play on.
“I’m yet to determine whether the answers is yes in that regard so time will tell.
“There’s still a lot of football to be played and that’s one thing that’s playing on my mind, Storm are in a decent position, we got the finals coming up then there is the World Cup so I don’t know what the timeline is but I dare say it’s still a fair way away.
“I won’t be dictated by the market or the availability, if I feel like I want to play on and it ends up being that there’s nothing available my decision is pretty easy.”

Cronk made his NRL commentary debut on Fox Sports last weekend, among a few things he plans on doing to determine what “life after football looks like”.
“I was very nervous (in the commentary box), I’d prefer to run out for an Origin game or a Grand Final,” Cronk said.
“I enjoyed it, it’s a different insight and a different view to watch a game, but I still much prefer to be running out and actually contributing to the game than calling it.”
