Awadhe Warriors put behind the absence of their star player Saina Nehwal and took 4-3 lead against defending champions Chennai Smashers on the first day of the third edition of the Premier Badminton League (PBL), with the much-anticipated tournament making its debut in Guwahati. The Warriors won both men’s singles and mixed doubles to take a 4-0 advantage. Parupalli Kashyap won his singles against Daniel S Farid 15-12, 15-8 in the Warriors’ trump match. However, Chennai Smashers came back in the men’s doubles and their trump match of women’s singles to save themselves embarrassment and earn three points. PV Sindhu thrashed Nehwal’s replacement SU Rao 15-10, 15-9 to win their trump match. Here are the key highlights of the opening day:
