Illegal hacking methods allegedly used by the FBI to obtain evidence and expose users of an international abuse website have stirred a legitimacy debate in Norway. According to the Norwegian daily Adresseavisen, the FBI used illegal data gathering methods against local users of a cloaked website to reveal their IP addresses and unveil their identities. The illegal hacking reportedly led to dozens of arrests. Earlier this year, seven men were arrested in Norway in connection with an investigation into an international abuse website. Recently, however, it transpired that the scope of the case in Norway alone is broader than initially thought. The country's National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos) announced that charges have been brought against 43 Norwegians as a result of the ongoing investigation. The methods used by the FBI were considered illegal in Norway in 2015, the year the website was active. Foreign authorities were not permitted to access computers in Norway ei...

New Delhi: Indian football's date with destiny didn't have a fairytale ending, but it still gladdened fans who had come not expecting a win but an unlikely draw or a heartwarming effort. The Delhi crowd didn't get their first two wishes fulfilled but a couple of moments in the match made them skip a beat. Those moments didn't end in leaps of joy but definitely, put a smile on the face of fans who walked back home from the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium after India's U-17 team lost 0-3 defeat against the USA in the country's first ever FIFA World Cup match. The stands were not full, but a concerted effort from the government upped the count, many of them being students from Delhi/NCR (National Capital Region). And the crowd didn't make any bones about getting behind the team. From a Mexican wave of more than 45,000 pairs of hands to shouts of "India...India", the roar and the cheer at times were deafening. Especially when the Indian boy with a blo...

The high-voltage Supreme Court hearing in the Kerala 'love jihad' case is all set to get more rancorous. At a time CJI Dipak Misra ponders whether to continue with the NIA probe ordered by his predecessor JS Khehar to verify if there was any "ulterior or criminal" motive in Kerala-based Muslim youth Shafin Jahan marrying a Hindu girl Akhila after she converted to Islam, pleas for NIA investigation into two more similar cases landed in the court on the eve of a crucial hearing. The SC had said it wanted to ascertain if Hadiya was indeed trapped by a "well-oiled racket that uses psychological measures to indoctrinate people and persuade them to join terror groups such as ISIS" as alleged by her father and endorsed by the state HC, which quashed the marriage and gave the girl's custody to her father. A new petition has been filed by one Bindu from Kerala, who's daughter Nimisha converted to Islam to become Fathima, married a Christian who embraced Is...

Jann-Fiete Arp starred in Germany’s 2-1 win over Costa Rica in their opening FIFA U-17 World Cup game. (Twitter: @DFB_Team_EN) The goal-scoring run of Germany U-17 striker Jann-Fiete Arp has created a lot of buzz in his homeland. Many are backing the Hamburg frontman to lead Die Mannschaft’s frontline in the future. The main reason for that is Germany’s lack of striking options. While they have produced a plethora of quality attacking midfielders, there has been a dearth of out-and-out strikers. The current national squad banks on Mario Gomez, who at 32 isn’t getting any younger, and Timo Werner, who has started his Germany career well, winning the golden boot at the Confederations Cup. However, doubts remain over his durability. So all eyes are on Arp, his development in the next couple of years and whether he can convert his potential into something substantial. Germany U-17 coach Christian Wuck said after their 2-1 win over Costa Rica on Saturday that some of these youngsters ...

Despite concern that the composition of vaccines used by the city for the coming flu season differs from the latest recommendation by the World Health Organisation, Hong Kong's authorities and top medical experts said on Tuesday that vaccination would still be useful in preventing the disease. The global health watchdog announced last Thursday that the vaccine strain against influenza A H3N2 for the southern hemisphere next year had been changed to the Singapore strain, different from the Hong Kong strain found in the city's 460,000 doses of flu vaccines, which will be given out under the government's vaccination programme beginning this month. The composition of the city's vaccines was based on the WHO's recommendations for the northern hemisphere, announced in February. But the latest suggestion cites studies that show recent H3N2 viruses, which were predominant globally from February to September this year, had been "better inhibited" by antibodies ...

In less than four months after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to US in which he mentioned India’s intentions to strengthen its hydrocarbon engagement with the US, the first consignment of crude has reached Indian shore. New Delhi (Sputnik) — Diversifying the energy dependency, India has received the first US crude oil cargo of 1.6 million barrels bought by Indian Oil Corporation from the United States on Monday at Paradip port. The step is seen as Indian strategy to lessen its dependency on OPEC countries for its oil demands. This is also being seen as an attempt by India to exert pressure on OPEC to slash prices and stop charging a premium from Asian buyers. MT New Prosperity, a very large crude carrier, having a capacity of 2 million barrels of crude, had left US Gulf Coast on 19th August for Paradip port. IndianOil, an Indian state-owned company, will process the crude at its East-Coast based refineries, located at Paradip, Haldia, Barauni and Bongaigaon. This is t...

However, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy declared the Sunday plebiscite had been blocked, saying "today there has not been a self-determination referendum in Catalonia," a region deeply divided over independence. Further adding to tensions, unions and Catalan associations called a region-wide strike for Tuesday due to "the grave violation of rights and freedoms," urging people to take to the streets in Catalonia, a major engine for Spanish growth. At least 92 people were confirmed injured out of a total of 844 who needed medical attention, Catalan authorities said, as police cracked down on a vote Spain's central government branded a "farce".
