Amid crackdown on slaughterhouses across the state of Uttar Pradesh, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has threatened to shut down all the shops which are cutting and selling meat or chicken on their premises with or without the certificate/licence. According to reports, the demands from the VHP members to close such shops have already started reaching the police officials in Noida. It has also threatened to unleash vigilante groups if the police fails to take action. The VHP says that even if the meat shops have a valid licence from the district administration, they cannot cut the meat of already slaughtered animals on the premises. The shopkeepers, however, cited practical reasons for cutting the slaughtered animal and selling at their shops. While earlier the slaughter of animals went unchecked at most of the shops in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad, the shopkeepers have now started buying already slaughtered chicken or goats from places like Ghazipur Mandi in Delhi or New Ashok N...

It takes tremendous guts and b***s to shoo away an alligator who is having the time of his life at a lush-green golf course. Normally harmless creatures until you call for danger by doing something silly. No one can yet understand what was going on in the mind of 26-year-old golfer Cody Gribble when he decided to take things in his own hands and ask the alligator to get the s*** out of his golf course. This happened during the PGA Arnold Palmer Invitational this week at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Florida. Social media users brought references to Chubbs Peterson, played by Carl Weathers a.k.a. Apollo Creed, in the movie Happy Gilmore. The character of Chubbs Peterson was a pro golfer who was forced to retire early when his hand was bitten off by an alligator.

MUMBAI: Usually accustomed to spending most of their time making nuclear weapons, a group of scientists in India have developed a unique life-saving device. And a low-cost, affordable solution for the rural masses of India at that. It is estimated that one person in India dies due to a heart attack every thirty seconds. While adequate facilities exist in urban areas, rural and remote areas do not even have basic electro-cardiogram (ECG) machines or specialists who can read them. With them in mind, scientists at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center have developed a credit card-sized Tele-ECG machine that can transmit an ECG over mobile phones to save lives. While imported commercial models are much bigger, heavier and 10 times more expensive, this 12-channel ECG machine costs just Rs 4,000 and is possibly the smallest of its kind. The machine can be recharged via a mobile charger and then the data can be transmitted via mobile network anywhere in the world to a specialist.

We also congratulate the Prime Minister on this victory," he added. Referring to the Congress' win in Punjab, Raut said that people have voted for a change wherever there was a credible alternative to the incumbent government. winners Assembly election 2017: Big winners and losersThe Big WinnersPM Modi has consolidated, beyond question, his status as India's most popular politician. Like Vajpayee, Modi is a great communicator; he is also the master of the mass mind. He struck a chord with aspirational voters, fashioning a mix of 'Vikas' and Hindu nationalism, and turned the charge of divisive politics on his opponents. While even a week can be a long time in politics, he looks strongly placed to defend his title in 2019.

Australia latest

After pink water flowed from the taps of a Canadian town, an Australian lake has now turned pink. In Port Melbourne, Westgate Park's salt lake is now a fabulous shade of pink instead of the customary blue. Unlike in Canada, where potassium permanganate contamination led to the change in colour, this lake turning pink is a natural phenomenon. "Westgate Park's salt lake has turned pink again this season: a natural phenomenon in response to very high salt levels, high temperatures, sunlight and lack of rainfall. Algae growing in the salt crust at the bottom of the lake produces the red pigment (beta carotene) as part of its photosynthesis process and in response to the extremely high salt levels," says a statement on the Parks Victoria Facebook page.
